While such diets can produce significant weight loss in a short amount of time, the results are hardly long lasting .

To a certain extent, genetics do play a role in determining your metabolic rate etc. Very often it is , in fact, the way we have been taught to eat and prepare food that has been passed down, often to our detriment.
The most important factor in determining success in any weight loss program is the number of calories you eat and the amount of physical activity you may do in a single day. There are a group of individuals who are promoting grapefruit as a way to lose fat. Grapefruit may be helpful as a factor in the nutritionally balanced diet, but as a silver bullet, don't hold your breath for lasting results.
